What is Yoga

I studied Yoga in the Himalayas, it has taught me many things. I believe we can only share based on what we receive and perceive, here is what I have learned.

One of the more fitting translations of Yoga means Union or oneness. If there is a "goal" to practicing yoga it is the union of the body, mind, and spirit. This may be accomplished through different forms of exercises like pranayama, asana, mudra, bandha, shatkarma, and meditation. These purifications would need to be achieved before integration of the pure spirit. Pure effortless embodied action within physical action and or non action. A harmonious flow of intentional movement of the body, mind, and spirit. I like to think of nature when attempting to convey this meaning.

*The practice of non doing. The Master does nothing and yet leaves nothing undone. ~Tao te ching.

A fitting excerpt, another practice for another day.*

An example of a Yogic practice would be more so renowned at least in the West are Asanas, this can be different physical poses of practice which help open the energetic flows in your body. There are different types of physical Asana practices that vary such as, Hatha (root of all yoga which also just used to more consistent of the shatkarma practices), Kundalini, Vinyasa, yin, Ashtanga, and more.

Another example would be Pranayama (one of my favorite, and suggested starting ground), Pranayama can be translated to breath. This offers different breathing exercises that can become quite extensive.

To dive a bit further we would brush over cleansing and balancing practices called shatkarma (Shat means six and Karma means action). These can be pretty intense, especially when looking at the earliest recorded practices.

This isn't even going over Bandha or Mudra Practices! Let alone the little information on the other topics which are all unique and important.

It is something to be shared and respected, everyone practices for different reasons and seasons. It is not a competition or something to boost your ego. It is a purification into the pure harmonious aspects of yourself. Unless you have pure energy already get ready for some serious purging that MAY take years or lifetimes to complete depending on your specific energetic needs. Don't hesitate to reach out to myself or someone who may be able to be a grounding post.
